Tibetan refugee monks from Drepung Monastery received $2,500 from the Tibetan Aid Foundation in 2023. The money will be used for the monk’s nutritional needs as well as educational supplies for the children. After fleeing Tibet, Tibetan refugee monks have come to many parts of the world. This project will specifically aid monks who are now living as refugees in Southern India.
As many refugees do, these monks face novel dietary concerns. They have limited access to adequate amounts of food, well-balanced varieties of food, and clean, safe drinking water. This money will go towards ensuring the Tibetan refugee monks can continue to lead healthy lives after being forced to leave their homes. We hope that our support and resources to address their nutritional needs will greatly improve to their well-being as they rebuild their lives in refugee communities across the world.
The Monastery in Southern India also has a school where young children can receive an education. The children study from ages 6 to 18 and, as adults, are given the choice to remain at the Monastery as monks or go out into society. Our project supports these refugee children at the Monastery, by funding their nutrition and school supplies.
